By 1987, Power Ballad were past the point of proving anything—Love Is a Loaded Gun is a band playing entirely on their own terms, with Astrid Caldera joining Maverick on three tracks that hit as hard as anything on Hearts of Fire. "Velvet Razor" and "Take Command" are the sound of a band with nothing left to lose.
This would be Power Ballad's second-to-last studio album. Four years later, Cade Maverick would vanish off a yacht in the Caribbean, and the band's story would end exactly the way its songs always threatened it might.
